Singing For the Son and Covenant Kids is a children's music ministry that involves children K-6th grade. Singing For the Son consists of 3rd thru 6th graders while kindergarteners thru 2nd graders are Covenant Kids. Kindergarteners must be five years old by September 30th to participate. The 2010-2011 year will begin on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 with registration being held from 4:30-5:00 p.m. Our first rehearsal will begin at 5 p.m. Carpool lineup will be available for pickup at 6 p.m. on September 1st and children must have completed registration forms in order to attend any rehearsal.
SFTS and CK meet on Wednesday afternoons during the school year from 4:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the Christian Life Center. Young people enjoy a time of fellowship on the court area before music time. Pick up is at 6:00 p.m. and parents don't even have to get out of their cars to drop off or to pick up their children!
Plains Presbyterian youth and Zachary High School Beta Club members volunteer on Wednesday afternoons and assist with the children. SFTS was adopted by the ZHS Beta Club in 1997 and is one of their official activities to date. ZHS seniors can also obtain senior merit hours by volunteering with this children's ministry. Most of our volunteers to date are actually alumni of Singing For the Son.
SFTS/CK will sing at a church service in the fall, will be a part of the 2010 Christmas program held the second Sunday in December and the annual Christmas Eve service, process with palms on Palm Sunday, and will present the full-length children's musical "It's Cool in the Furnace" in late March, 2011.
We are going to have a GREAT year!
